Alison Brown

I have ridden all my life, competing in Eventing, Show Jumping, Team Chasing and Point to Pointing.  I became a BHSAI in 1993 and much later attained my stage IV and Stable Managers exams.  I coach riding for the Modern Pentathlon and was honoured to be invited to judge at London 2012 Olympics.
I have been fortunate enough to be awarded the Sefton Award for services to Safety and the Award of Merit from the British Horse Society.

I am very married, I have two sons, one is a butcher and the other a linguist, my husband is a farmer and part time comedian.

Kerry Miller

My name is Kerry. I started riding here when I was 7 years old, over 25 years later I am still here. I am now a qualified instructor as well as a riding for the disabled instructor.
My job is very rewarding, seeing the pleasure and sense of achievement that people get from riding makes my job worthwhile. When time allows I do the odd bit of competing and I do enjoy hunting.

I have never owned a horse of my own, however, I am very fortunate to ride the lovely horses from here at Friars Hill.

Katie Burton

My name is Katie and I work full time at the yard. I have been riding since I was 4 and I was an active member of the Pony Club at Friars Hill, taking part in dressage competitions and triathlons. I am now a member of the Riding Club and love our fortnightly lessons and the social side!
The best bit about riding for me is pushing myself to do the best I can especially when it comes to jumping as that's my favourite discipline! I don't compete very often as I don't deal with stress and nerves very well.
Teaching others to ride is very fulfilling and I love watching people grow in confidence and enjoying their hobby.
I was lucky enough to own my own horse but unfortunately lost him to old age. Riding the horses at Friars Hill keeps me happy so I aren't going to rush getting another.

My favourite horse at the yard is Lottie. She's small, strong minded and feisty...a bit like me! Riding her puts the biggest smile on my face which is what riding is all about!!

Mark Holmes

My name is Mark Holmes and I am a part time instructor at Friars Hill. I have grown up with horses and always had horses around the farm but it took 12 years for me to start riding. I started at another local riding school but didn't enjoy it there so after a year and a half we moved to Friars Hill. I soon become a pony club member and also a Sunday helper.
I later went on to study a National Diploma in Horse Management at Bishop Burton College.  I then came back to the yard full time, I gained my British Horse Society stage two exam and also my Preliminary Teaching Test and got my first horse.  Later I went on to become a Riding Club member and also eventing my horse. I have worked my way up to BE100 and hope to move up to Novice level.  I specialise in training young or green horses and enjoy teaching Riding Club, Pony Club and jumping lessons.
I have a slight touch of favouritism towards Comet and Prickle, two Friars Hill Stables horses which I did a lot with. I now have two horses of my own who both event.

I also work part-time for a Retraining of Racehorses (ROR) charity called New Beginnings and I have started competing for them.

Tracy Preston

I’m Tracy and I am the secretary/paperwork queen at Friars Hill Stables.  I have been here for 14 years in total with a brief 18 month soujourn somewhere in between.
I started working here when my children began riding lessons, I became a Pony Club parent and I just never really left!  I love my job, every day is different.

All of the Friars Hill horses and ponies make me smile, it’s like therapy!

Sandra Thurlow

I have been involved with Friars Hill Riding for the Disabled Group (RDA) since it started in 1988  At first as a helper and then I took over running the group in  1993.  I got my teaching ticket a year later so during school term time I'm at the yard every Monday and Thursday. I thoroughly enjoy teaching RDA and I get so much out of it………...I can recommend volunteering to anyone.
I've been a Pony Club mum since 1999 with both of my children active members of Friars Hill Pony Club.

I'm a member of the Riding Club based at the yard and my favourite equine is whoever I'm riding at the time...I have been a Riding and Road safety trainer based at Friars Hill for nearly 20 years and every exam day still makes me anxious

Rachel Watson

Hello I'm Rachel and I am married with three kids.
Horses are my life and have been since I was 6 years old, when we bought our first pony. I have ridden most of my life but due to personnel circumstances I had to give up my riding, but last year in 2015 I took up riding again.
I started working here at Friars Hill October 2015, and have just started doing my BHS stage exams. When getting to know the horses here at Friars Hill, each and every one has their own different personality.

I would have to say Max is my favourite, he's just so grumpy with his droopy lip, you’ve just got to love him.
